CO2 Laser Resurfacing

CO2 laser resurfacing NYC is an ablative skin resurfacing treatment for wrinkles, sun damage, acne scars, surgical scars, enlarged pores, uneven tone, and rough texture. It is especially useful for deeper lines around the eyes, mouth, cheeks, and forehead, where stronger collagen remodeling and skin tightening may be needed.
During CO2 laser treatment, 10,600 nm laser energy is absorbed by water in the skin. The laser removes microscopic columns of damaged tissue while heating the surrounding dermis. This controlled process stimulates new collagen and new skin formation, replacing older, thinner, damaged skin with smoother, firmer tissue.
At our Manhattan office, Dr. Rokhsar adjusts treatment depth, density, energy, and pattern for your skin and goals. Fractional CO2 laser NYC treatment targets only a portion of the skin during each pass. Untreated skin between those microscopic columns supports faster healing than older fully ablative resurfacing methods.

Dr. Cameron Rokhsar, MD, FAAD, FAACS, is a double board-certified dermatologist and micrographic dermatologic surgeon. He is fellowship-trained in laser and MOHS surgery and has more than 20 years of experience treating wrinkles, scars, sun damage, pigmentation, and other medical and cosmetic skin concerns.
Dr. Rokhsar graduated from Harvard College and NYU School of Medicine. He completed fellowship training under the late Dr. Richard Fitzpatrick, regarded as a father of modern laser resurfacing. Dr. Rokhsar is also an Associate Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.
Dr. Rokhsar participated in early fractional laser research, helped develop Fraxel technology, and worked with fractional CO2 laser protocols. He has taught laser techniques to physicians internationally. For laser resurfacing NYC patients, he personally selects settings based on skin thickness, treatment area, scar depth, wrinkles, pigment risk, and desired recovery.
Candidates for CO2 laser Manhattan treatment often have moderate or deep wrinkles, acne scars, sun damage, enlarged pores, or loose facial skin. Because ablative lasers carry greater pigment risk in darker skin, Dr. Rokhsar may recommend Fraxel Dual instead. Treatment is performed within our Quad A-accredited practice.

CO2 laser for wrinkles can improve skin texture, firmness, etched lines, enlarged pores, sun damage, and acne scars after one well-planned treatment. Changes become visible as the surface heals. Collagen production and remodeling continue beneath the skin during the following months, so improvement develops gradually.
Many patients notice visible improvement about one week after laser skin resurfacing NYC treatment. Results continue developing over three to six months. Depending on your starting condition, changes may include smoother under-eye skin, softer mouth lines, smaller-looking pores, more even texture, and improvement in depressed acne scars.
Results from fractional CO2 laser resurfacing may last for years. Sun protection, avoiding smoking, and physician-guided skin care can help preserve the improvement. Natural aging continues, but new collagen created after resurfacing can leave treated skin thicker, firmer, and smoother long after the initial recovery period.
CO2 laser recovery depends on treatment depth and number of passes. Fractional treatment commonly requires about one week of social downtime. More aggressive multi-pass resurfacing can require closer to two weeks. During early healing, treated skin may appear red, swollen, raw, or oozy before new surface skin develops.
Expected effects include redness, swelling, peeling, flaking, itching, and a sunburn-like sensation. Redness can continue after the skin surface heals and may gradually fade over several weeks. Less common complications of CO2 laser resurfacing include infection, scarring, burns, and darker or lighter pigmentation.
Dr. Rokhsar provides specific aftercare based on treatment intensity. Care may include vinegar-water soaks, Aquaphor or petrolatum, cold compresses, and prescribed medications. You should avoid picking, irritating skin products, and direct sun during healing. Makeup may usually resume after the surface has healed, often around one week.
