MiraDry Treatment

With extensive experience treating excessive sweating, New York Cosmetic Skin & Laser Surgery Center offers MiraDry Treatment in New York, Manhattan for lasting underarm sweat and odor reduction under Dr. Rokhsar’s expert care.

MiraDry Treatment in New York

Dry Confidence Starts With Expert Sweat Control

MiraDry Treatment in New York, Manhattan is designed for patients bothered by excessive underarm sweating, also called axillary hyperhidrosis. The treatment reduces sweat and odor glands in the underarm area, and it may also decrease underarm hair. It helps patients who soak shirts, avoid certain fabrics, or feel limited by deodorant.

At New York Cosmetic Skin & Laser Surgery Center, your visit begins with cleansing and careful mapping of the underarms using a temporary treatment template. Local tumescent anesthesia is placed to numb the area and protect deeper structures. The handpiece then delivers controlled microwave energy through the skin in a series of treatment passes planned for your anatomy.

The energy heats the layer where sweat glands live while cooling protects the skin surface. No surgical cuts are made. For underarms, most patients spend about two hours in our Manhattan office. Larger off-label areas, such as the chest or groin, require a longer visit and are considered only after evaluation by Dr. Rokhsar.

Expert Sweat Reduction Led By A Laser Pioneer

Dr. Rokhsar brings rare experience to MiraDry treatment because he has worked with lasers and energy-based devices for more than 20 years. He is double board-certified in dermatology and micrographic dermatologic surgery, and he is fellowship-trained in laser and MOHS surgery.

He trained at Harvard College, NYU School of Medicine, Lenox Hill Hospital, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and completed a laser and dermatologic surgery fellowship under Dr. Richard Fitzpatrick. He also serves as an Associate Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital, where he teaches cosmetic dermatology.

Dr. Rokhsar was the first miraDry provider in the New York area and has performed more miraDry procedures than any other physician in the country. He helped develop miraDry protocols, trained other doctors, and has written scientific articles and book chapters on this treatment. Patients also know him from Good Morning America, Today Show, and The Wall Street Journal.

Compared with many competitors, our results come from careful diagnosis, proper patient selection, and advanced numbing. Good candidates are adults with bothersome underarm, chest, or groin sweating. MiraDry is not used for hands or feet. Our Quad A-accredited clinic supports hospital-level safety standards, sterility protocols, and physician-led care in a private Manhattan setting.

How Long Does MiraDry Treatment Last?

Results from miraDry treatment are typically noticed quickly. Many patients see less underarm sweat the next day, with ongoing improvement as swelling settles and the treated glands stop working. Some sweat may seem to return as untreated glands remain active during the healing period.

Because sweat glands do not grow back after treatment, results are considered permanent. One session often gives about 50% sweat reduction. Two sessions, spaced two to three months apart, commonly produce 80% to 90% sweat reduction. About 2% to 3% of patients need a third session.

Real outcomes often include fewer sweat marks, less clothing damage, less reliance on antiperspirant, and meaningful odor reduction. Patients who once avoided fitted shirts or social settings often feel more comfortable at work, on dates, and during Manhattan commutes in warm weather. The change can feel practical and deeply personal, especially for patients whose sweat once controlled wardrobe choices, meetings, travel, or exercise routines. For many, daily grooming becomes simpler.

MiraDry Treatment Downtime or Side Effects

MiraDry is a non-surgical treatment with no incisions and little interruption to daily life. Many patients return to desk work or routine activities soon after leaving our Manhattan office, although taking the rest of the day off is preferred for comfort.

After treatment, we ask patients to ice the area as much as possible for the first day and take Advil as directed. Swelling, soreness, firmness, lumpiness, numbness, or tingling can occur. These effects may last from a few days to two months, then fade as tissue heals.

Avoid heavy lifting, running, and intense exercise for about one week. Keep the area clean with gentle soap and resume shaving only when the skin feels ready, using a new razor. Rare effects can include prolonged altered sensation, burns, infection, or arm discomfort, which we discuss before treatment. Patients should wear loose clothing after the visit to reduce rubbing and avoid deodorant until the skin calms. Most symptoms improve steadily with simple home care.

New York MiraDry Treatment FAQs

Is MiraDry safe for underarm sweating?
Yes. miraDry is FDA-cleared for underarm sweating and has been performed on many patients worldwide. Dr. Rokhsar uses local tumescent anesthesia and careful treatment mapping to keep the procedure comfortable. Safety also depends on proper diagnosis, medical history review, and experienced device settings.
No. miraDry is not used on the hands or feet because nerves, vessels, and bones are too close to the skin in those areas. Dr. Rokhsar often recommends Botox injections for sweaty palms or soles, based on your exam and medical history.
Shave the underarms three days before your appointment so short hair can guide treatment mapping. Wear a tank top, sports bra, or loose shirt with wide arm openings. Do not apply heavy lotions to the area before your visit unless our office gives different instructions.
Yes. The underarms contain only a small portion of the body’s sweat glands. Removing treated underarm glands does not stop normal temperature control. Other sweat glands remain active, so your body can still cool itself during exercise, warm weather, and daily activity.
Botox blocks nerve signals to sweat glands and must be repeated as it wears off. miraDry destroys treated underarm sweat glands, so results last much longer. Botox remains useful for hands, feet, face, and scalp, while miraDry is preferred for underarm sweat reduction.
