Get Help for Aging Hands

At some point, you may have noticed that the skin on your hands looks old or worn out.  Our hands are involved in mostly every activity we perform in our daily lives.  We tend to forget about the skin on our hands until it becomes glaringly obvious.  Why do the hands show so many signs of aging?  The skin on the hands is thinner and more delicate than the skin on the face. As we age there is decreased fat padding in the hands, causing wrinkling and ‘crepey’ looking hands.  Years of sun damage causes uneven skin tone, age spots, wrinkles, and generally old-looking hands.

There are three main focuses for treating aged, old looking hands:

Replacing volume: Injectable fillers such as Radiesse or Sculptra can be used on the hands to replace volume.  By adding volume, they cover hand veins and smooth wrinkles.

Removing spots: Uneven skin tone on the hands can be effectively treated with lasers.  Fraxel:Dual is a laser commonly used on hands.  Fraxel:Dual works deep within the skin to smooth texture, zap wrinkles, and remove hyperpigmentation caused by sun damage.  The result is smooth, younger looking hands with even skin tone!

Preventing future damage:  Hand creams hydrate the skin and temporarily improve skin texture. Creams are not very effective for hand wrinkles, nor will they hide veins or replace volume.  They are an important factor in your skin care routine for maintaining moisture and preventing further sun damage.  It is best to use a moisturizer/cream with broad spectrum UV protection.
