PRP Injections for Hair Loss in New York

Restore Fuller Hair With Your Own Platelet Growth Factors

PRP hair treatment in NYC is used for thinning hair, reduced density, excessive shedding, receding hairlines, and androgenetic alopecia in men and women. PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. It is a concentrated portion of your own blood containing platelets and growth factors that can support weakened, active hair follicles.

Your PRP hair restoration treatment begins with a small blood draw, much like routine lab work. We place the sample into a sterile tube and process it in a centrifuge. This separates and concentrates the platelet-rich plasma from other blood components. We then prepare the PRP for scalp injections during the same Manhattan office visit.

Dr. Rokhsar places PRP hair loss injections directly into areas of thinning with a fine needle. These injections expose active follicles to concentrated growth factors that can support thicker strands, improved density, and reduced shedding. Depending on your diagnosis, your plan may also include minoxidil, prescription medication, supplements, or blood testing for medical causes of hair loss.

Hair Restoration Guided By Dermatology And Surgical Expertise

Dr. Cameron Rokhsar, MD, FAAD, FAACS, is double board-certified in dermatology and micrographic dermatologic surgery. He is also fellowship-trained in laser and MOHS surgery. He founded New York Cosmetic, Skin & Laser Surgery Center in 2005 and has more than 20 years of experience treating medical and cosmetic concerns.

Dr. Rokhsar graduated from Harvard College and NYU School of Medicine. He trained at Lenox Hill Hospital and Albert Einstein College of Medicine before completing a laser and dermatologic surgery fellowship with Dr. Richard Fitzpatrick. He is an Associate Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.

Our approach to PRP hair restoration in New York starts with finding the cause of your hair loss. Genetics, hormones, medications, inflammation, nutritional deficiencies, stress, and medical conditions can produce similar symptoms. Dr. Rokhsar examines your scalp and hair pattern before deciding whether PRP, medication, laboratory testing, or another treatment belongs in your plan.

PRP tends to work best when hair follicles remain active, including many cases of male and female pattern hair loss. Completely bald areas with long-standing follicle loss respond less reliably. PRP is also not the first treatment for many forms of scarring alopecia, inflammatory hair loss, or alopecia areata. Our Manhattan facility is Quad A accredited for patient safety and quality of care.

How Long Does PRP Injections for Hair Loss Last?

Results from PRP hair loss treatment in NYC appear gradually because the hair growth cycle takes time. You may first notice less shedding. Changes in strand thickness, texture, and scalp coverage can follow over the next several months. PRP supports existing follicles, so results tend to be stronger when treatment begins before follicles become inactive.

Our usual starting protocol includes three PRP hair treatment sessions spaced about one month apart. Some patients receive three to four sessions during the first year. Maintenance treatment is commonly performed every six months to one year. Dr. Rokhsar adjusts the schedule according to your diagnosis, degree of thinning, and response to treatment.

Your results depend on age, genetics, follicle health, hair loss pattern, medical history, and how early treatment begins. PRP may also be paired with therapies such as minoxidil or other prescription treatments when appropriate. Follow-up visits let Dr. Rokhsar assess shedding, density, and scalp health while adjusting your long-term hair restoration treatment.

PRP Injections for Hair Loss Downtime or Side Effects

There is no traditional downtime after hair growth injections in NYC at our Manhattan office. Most patients return to work and normal daily activities after treatment. Scalp injections can feel sensitive, so Dr. Rokhsar can perform nerve blocks for patients who want added comfort during their PRP session.

Temporary side effects can include scalp tenderness, pinpoint bleeding, tightness, or sensitivity at injection sites. Redness, bruising, or swelling can also occur but usually fades quickly. Since the injected platelet-rich plasma is prepared from your own blood, an allergic reaction to the PRP itself is uncommon.

We generally recommend waiting 24 hours before washing your hair and 48 hours before vigorous exercise. Strong styling products and chemical scalp treatments should be avoided for several days. Dr. Rokhsar may also advise you about anti-inflammatory medicines, alcohol, caffeine, or other products before and after treatment based on your medical history.

New York PRP Injections for Hair Loss FAQs

How many PRP sessions are needed for hair restoration?
Most patients begin with three PRP hair restoration sessions spaced about four weeks apart. Some patients receive a fourth treatment during the first year. Maintenance injections may then be performed every six months to one year. Dr. Rokhsar adjusts the schedule according to your hair loss pattern, follicle health, and treatment response.
PRP does not produce immediate hair growth. Many patients notice reduced shedding before they see changes in density or strand thickness. Visible improvement can develop over several months as treated follicles move through their growth cycles. Results vary, and patients with active follicles generally respond better than areas with long-standing baldness.
Yes. PRP for hair loss in NYC is commonly used for men and women with androgenetic alopecia, also called male or female pattern hair loss. Women with widening parts and diffuse thinning may benefit. Men with early hairline or crown thinning may also respond when follicles remain active.
PRP and hair transplantation serve different purposes. PRP supports existing follicles without surgery. A hair transplant moves follicles into areas where hair has been lost and may be more appropriate for advanced baldness. Dr. Rokhsar evaluates your scalp first and can explain whether non-surgical PRP hair restoration fits your pattern of hair loss.
Dr. Rokhsar is a double board-certified dermatologist and dermatologic surgeon with more than 20 years of experience. He teaches dermatology at Mount Sinai and has been recognized by Castle Connolly, New York Magazine, and RealSelf. At our Manhattan practice, your PRP hair loss treatment begins with a medical diagnosis and physician-directed treatment plan.
