Non-Surgical Eyelift in New York

USmakeoverSometimes, life catches up with us. It definitely happens, especially in New York! (They don’t call us the city that never sleeps for no reason.) And when it does, we can start to look worn down and tired. This can lead to dark circles under the eyes. As we age, the skin of the lower and upper eyelids becomes more wrinkled and loose. Looseness of the skin and gravity pull the skin of the cheeks downwards, resulting in a groove at the junction of where the cheeks meet the eyelids. This is called the tear trough. Also in genetically susceptible individuals, the fat pad in the lower eyelids becomes large as we age and protrude out, a feature patients call eye bags. A combination of loose wrinkly crepey skin in the lower eyelids, along with more prominent fat pads, as well as a hollowness in the tear trough gives people a tired old look around the eyes.

If you have always wanted to improve the appearance of your lower eyelids, get rid of that tired look, decrease the shadowing effect that gives the appearance that you have dark circles around your eyes or improve the appearance of bags around your eyes, and you don’t want surgery, consider the non-surgical eye lift. Dr. Rokhsar can tell you if you are a good candidate for the non-surgical eye lift or whether traditional blepharoplasty would be more suitable for you. In addition, Dr. Rokhsar can tell you if you can combine the non-surgical eye lift with other laser resurfacing procedures including the CO2 or Fraxel lasers for optimal results.

Non Surgical Eye Lift

Dr. Rokhsar, a double board-certified dermatologist and dermatologic surgeon, and Associate Professor of Dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital has developed a procedure he calls the non-surgical eyelift to address many of the issues associated with the aging lower eyelids. The procedure also works in younger patients with dark circles or eye bags.

The 15-Minute Non-Surgical Eyelift involves the placement of small amounts of a filler substance in the lower eyelids skin to rejuvenate the lower eyelids. By putting the filler in precise locations in lower eyelids and tear troughs, Dr. Rokhsar can improve the appearance of wrinkles, hollowness, dark circles, eye bags, fat pads as well as many other lower eyelid imperfections. The procedure takes less than 15 minutes to perform and the results are instantaneous.

It is always a good idea to get more sleep to improve the appearance of dark circles. However, dark circles under the eyes aren’t always caused by lack of sleep. Sometimes they’re caused by simple physiology. Oftentimes they are caused by hollowness. Other factors contributing to the appearance of dark circles include brown pigmentation, vascularity, or purpleness, as well as rubbing the eyes or allergies. Depending on the actual cause of your dark circles, the treatment can be either simple or more challenging. The non-surgical blepharoplasty can address many of the causes of dark circles giving patients a more well-rested look.

Laser treatment for dark circles

Laser resurfacing can be an effective option for treating dark circles, depending on the particular factors that give patients the appearance of dark circles. Laser Resurfacing can improve actual brown spots or pigmentation on the lower eyelids which give the appearance of dark circles. Another way it improves dark circles is by tightening the skin through stimulating collagen production which can also improve skin texture and tone. This tighter skin improves the appearance of dark circles.

There are different forms of laser resurfacing to address dark circles under the eyes. Carbon dioxide (CO2) lasers are one type of ablative laser that can be used to treat dark circles. This type of laser is particularly useful for lighter skin individuals with dark circles and wrinkles. Dr. Rokhsar prefers the newer generation of CO2 lasers called fractional CO2 lasers, due to improved safety. Dr. Rokhsar prefers to use non-ablative fractional lasers such as the Fraxel Restore dual laser for darker skin patients, younger patients, as well as patients who don’t have the tolerance for downtime. Remember that laser resurfacing is an art form. Therefore, it is crucial that you seek the help of an experienced laser dermatologist like Dr. Rokhsar.

Dark circles under eyes causes

As one ages, the lower eyelids can become hollow. In other individuals, hollowness can happen at a young age due to their genetics. In some people “bags” develop in the lower eyelids which are protruding fat. Hollowness or bags around the eyes can be a major cause of under-eye dark circles. This is due to a shadowing effect that arises as a result of a hill and valley effect. The valley being the hollow areas are darker in appearance due to shadowing.

If the cause of the dark circles is shadowing, this can be easily corrected or camouflaged through the placement of small amounts of a filler substance named Restylane or Vollure in the lower eyelids. This is a minimal downtime procedure done with numbing cream only and it usually takes less than 15 minutes. The results can last one to two years.

Another cause of dark circles is pigmentation. Brown spots or pigmentation can be treated with either our pigment lasers or laser resurfacing, either with the fractional CO2 laser or the Fraxel Restore Dual. Oftentimes, if the cause of pigmentation is from simple lentigos or brown spots, one session with our pigment laser can effectively remove the pigmentation. In other individuals, we may have to use our resurfacing lasers. In some patients, by getting rid of thin loose, crepey skin through laser resurfacing, the dark circles improve dramatically. It is important not to use any harsh products that irritate the eyes because irritation can cause brown skin formation in the form of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Rubbing the eyes or friction can cause a similar phenomenon. If you have allergies or itchy eyes, it is important to get your allergies under control to improve your under-eye dark circles.

Another cause of dark circles is vascular congestion or vascularity around the eyes. This usually manifests itself as a purple hue around the lower eyelids. This is a common problem seen in patients from East Asia, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean region. This is a genetic issue and is caused by the pooling of blood in small blood vessels under the eyes. In some individuals, we can use our vascular lasers to improve this vascular congestion. In others, this remains a challenging condition to treat.

Non-surgical upper eyelid lift

One popular option is the use of neurotoxins such as Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and Jeuveau, which can help lift the brow to cause a lift in the upper eyelid by raising the eyelid with the eyebrow. The results of these injections typically last about three to four months.

Ultherapy is another non-surgical treatment option that utilizes ultrasound technology to tighten and lift the skin around the upper eyebrow area giving a lift to the upper eyelid. The results from Ultherapy can last one to two years.

Dr. Rokhsar’s favorite procedure for a non-surgical upper eyelid lift is fractional CO2 laser resurfacing. Dr. Rokhsar is considered a world expert in CO2 laser resurfacing. The CO2 laser generates high heat to cause dramatic tightening of the eyelids, with results very similar to a surgical blepharoplasty but without any cutting or scars. The CO2 laser can tighten and lift both the upper and lower eyelid skin.

Non-surgical lower eyelid lift

Non-surgical lower eyelid lifts are popular procedures for those looking to improve the appearance of under-eye bags, dark circles, and wrinkles without undergoing invasive surgery. While surgical options such as blepharoplasty can offer long-lasting results, non-surgical options can provide great results with little to no downtime.

The most common non-surgical treatments for lower eyelid lifts include dermal fillers, Botox, and skin resurfacing. Dermal fillers, such as Vollure and Restylane, can be used to add volume to hollow under-eye areas, creating a more youthful appearance. Botox injections can also be used to relax the muscles around the eyes and lift the area, resulting in fewer wrinkles and a smoother appearance. Skin resurfacing, such as with fractional CO2 laser, can also help reduce the appearance of deep wrinkles as well as thicken and tighten the loose crepey skin around the eyes.

Another popular non-surgical treatment for a lower eyelid lift is Ultherapy. Ultherapy is a non-invasive ultrasound treatment that stimulates collagen production in the skin, resulting in a firmer, more lifted appearance. This treatment can be used to improve the appearance of under-eye bags and wrinkles, with results that can last up to one to two years. It is important to note that Ultherapy can be used around the eyes only in area that have bone under them.

Botox eyelid lift

Botox injections work by relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles and fine lines, but they can also be used to address sagging and drooping eyelids. The injection is typically administered at the outer end of the eyebrow, which then elevates the eyebrow slightly and creates a lifting effect on the eyelids. This placement of botox should be combined with botox injections in the forehead for maximal lift.

Botox injections are not a replacement for surgical procedures such as blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery. Botox is not effective in addressing significant sagging or drooping of the eyelids. Patients with more severe cases of sagging eyelids should consider a surgical option such as blepharoplasty or CO2 laser resurfacing.

Non-surgical eyelid lift recovery

After a non-surgical eyelid lift procedure done with fillers, there is typically minimal downtime, and patients can return to their normal activities within a day or two. Patients may experience mild swelling, bruising, or redness around the treatment area, but these symptoms usually resolve within a few days.

Risks of non-surgical eye lifts

While invasive surgeries have a higher risk than non-surgical eye lifts, there are still some risks involved. These may include swelling, redness, and bruising. Restylane, a commonly used filler for the non-surgical eye lift, is FDA-approved with a wealth of studies indicating its safety and effectiveness. Dr. Rokhsar takes precautions with every procedure to minimize the chance of side effects to achieve the best possible results.

Non-surgical eyelift FAQ

How does a liquid eye lift work?

Aging causes the skin to lose its elasticity, making the skin more loose, wrinkled, and crepey. Aging can also cause hollowness resulting in a more prominent tear trough giving the yes a tired look. In some individuals, hollowness is simply genetic due to a recessed bony orbital rim. Yet others have fat pads or bulges in the lower eyelid commonly referred to as eye bags. Hollowness underneath the eyes can be restored using Restylane, or Vollure, cosmetic dermal fillers specifically designed to restore volume and fullness to the face. By restoring this volume, wrinkles hollowness, under-eye dark circles, and eyebags look much better. Dr. Rokhsar may also suggest using laser resurfacing such as the fractional CO2 laser (Fraxel Repair) or non-ablative fractional lasers like the Fraxel Restore Dual laser to resurface the eyelids to create a smoother appearance as complementary procedures.

Who is a good candidate for a non-surgical eye lift?

Eyelid rejuvenation treatments are for those patients who want to improve the appearance of their eyelids. These include people with hollow eyes, prominent tear troughs, under-eye circles, wrinkles, puffiness, colors changes in the eyes, hooding of the eyes, heaviness of the eyelids, crepey or loose skin around the eyes, poor textures around the eyes, purpleness around the eyes. In some individuals, more than one procedure may be necessary to address their particular circumstances and conditions.

Will the non surgical eyelift be painful?

The non-surgical eyelift is a virtually painless procedure. We don’t even use numbing cream! Fortunately, all fillers nowadays come with a numbing agent such as lidocaine already combined in the filler syringe. With Dr. Rokhsar’s unique technique and experienced hands, patients feel virtually nothing. Different numbing protocols are used if Dr. Rokhsar advises you that a laser is needed to address your particular issue. Different lasers have different numbing protocols. Our goal is to administer the procedure to you in a painless way. This is why experience and skill matters! Board Certification matters! Having an M.D. degree matters!

How long does the eyelid lift procedure take?

Using a small amount of filler substance to fill in the hollowness around the eye will take less than 15 minutes with Dr. Rokhsar Skill and experience. Dr. Rokhsar treats at least five patients a day using his unique non-surgical eyelift technique. This procedure requires little to no downtime and can be easily done during a work lunch break depending on an individual’s cosmetic goals.

What are eye lift post-treatment instructions?

With filler injections alone, the patient can resume normal activity immediately. Ice packs are recommended to minimize swelling. It is also important to limit your salt intake for a few days as salt makes people look more puffy post-procedure. Dr. Rokhsar also advises patients to sleep with their head elevated for a night or two to alleviate any swelling faster. With a surgical Blepharoplasty, a week of downtime is needed. Patients are asked to refrain from exercise or heavy lifting only with a surgical eyelift procedure. For Laser Resurfacing patients, we will give you a printed hand out as how to take care of your eyes post-laser resurfacing.

How long do eyelid lift results last?

The results for a filler non-surgical eyelift can last 1-2 years depending on the filler used. Vollure may last longer than Restylane. Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing results typically last 3-5 years. Surgical blepharoplasty results typically last 5-10 years.

How many syringes are needed for under eye filler?

The number of syringes needed for under-eye filler can vary depending on individual needs and goals, as well as the depth of the tear troughs. However, most patients typically require one to two syringes of filler to treat both eyes. In some cases, patients may need one syringe for each side if the tear troughs are deep. However, in general, most people require at least 1-2 syringes of filler for noticeable results in the under-eye area. Less is more when it comes to fillers in the tear troughs, and it’s usually recommended to start with a single syringe of a hyaluronic acid filler that can be dissolved if over-corrected. During a consultation, Dr. Rokhsar will advise you on how many syringes you may need.

How long does it take under eye filler to settle?

Under eye filler typically takes 1-2 weeks to settle, but the time it takes for each case to settle is highly variable and dependent on several factors such as how much product was injected, how quickly the body metabolizes the product, and how the area is cared for post-treatment. Dermal filler injections can take up to 14 days to settle, and the swelling may take a few days to two weeks to resolve. Hyaluronic fillers may last anywhere from 6 months to a year and a half, sometimes even longer. To help resolve bruising and swelling after under eye filler, cold compresses can be applied to the area for 15-20 minutes several times a day, and strenuous activity or exercise should be avoided for at least 24 hours after the procedure. Sculptra, a powerful collagen stimulator, can take up to 4-6 months to yield final results, but the effects can last for up to three years. Under-eye filler lasts anywhere from six months to one to two years or possibly even longer. Results of the injected filler can be seen almost immediately after the procedure, with full effects manifesting within a week or two.

What to expect after an under eye tear trough filler injection?

Immediately after the procedure, it is recommended to remain in an upright position and avoid touching the area for three hours or so to decrease the risk of swelling and bruising. The procedure typically takes only a few minutes, and results can often be appreciated right after the procedure is performed. However, it may take time for bruising to fade, swelling to go down, and filler to settle. It can take a few weeks to see the final results, and the filler can last anywhere from 6 to 24 months.

It is not uncommon to experience some redness, bruising, swelling, tenderness, or itching near the injection site immediately after injecting the filler. These are normal side effects and usually go away in a matter of hours or days. It is important to avoid scratching, massaging, or touching the injection site.

How long to see results after under eye tear trough filler injection?

Results of under-eye filler can typically be seen within a few days up to two weeks after the procedure. The filler can last anywhere from six months to two years, in some cases, it can last even longer, depending on the type of filler used and how fast the person’s metabolism is. In most cases, the duration of the filler depends on factors such as the brand of filler used, the amount of filler injected, and individual differences in the body’s metabolism and response to the treatment.

There may be some initial swelling and bruising following the procedure, which can affect the appearance of the results. It may take up to two weeks to see the final results due to this swelling and bruising. Additionally, it is possible to reverse the effects of the filler using Vitrase or Hylenex if desired.

What not to do after under eye filler?

After getting under-eye filler injections, it is important to avoid certain activities to ensure the best possible results. Here are some things to avoid after under-eye filler:

  • Avoid getting a massage or lying face down on a massage table for at least two weeks after the procedure. This can increase swelling, especially if you have had filler in your tear troughs or cheeks.
  • Stay upright and avoid touching the treated area for three hours after the injection to minimize the risk of displacement.
  • Don’t attempt to camouflage festoons with filler as it may magnify the mounds, causing stubborn bags to overtake the midface.
  • Avoid blood thinners, such as aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, fish oil, and most vitamins and supplements for at least five days before the procedure to decrease the risk of bruising.
  • Avoid wearing goggles or eyewear in the days immediately following the filler injections if you have received fillers in the upper half of the face.
  • Avoid excessive heat exposure, such as hot baths, saunas, or intense exercise, for at least 24 hours after the procedure to minimize the risk of swelling and redness.

It is important to follow the aftercare instructions provided by Dr. Rokhsar to ensure the best possible results and avoid complications. While under-eye filler is generally considered a safe and non-invasive procedure with little to no downtime, it is important to be aware of the potential risks and complications associated with the treatment. It is important to choose an experienced double board-certified dermatologist and surgeon such as Dr. Rokhsar to have the best results.

How long does swelling last after under eye filler?

Swelling after under-eye filler is a common side effect of the procedure, and it may take a couple of days to a couple of weeks for the swelling to subside.

The length of time the swelling lasts may vary depending on various factors such as the type of filler used, the amount of filler injected, the patient’s skin type and sensitivity, and the technique used during the injection. Most fillers used for under-eye treatment are made of hyaluronic acid (HA), which is hydrophilic and can attract water after injection, causing temporary swelling. However, some HA fillers can hold on to water more than others, which can prolong the swelling effect. Fillers such as Juvederm are too hydrophilic and not ideal for tear trough or under-eye injections based on Dr. Rokhsar’s experience.

Bruising can also occur after filler injections, which can contribute to the appearance of swelling. This bruising can take some time to subside, usually up to two weeks. However, patients can take measures to reduce swelling, such as applying a cold compress or sleeping with an extra pillow to elevate their head while sleeping. Patients who experience persistent or severe swelling should contact Dr. Rokhsar for advice. Dr. Rokhsar recommends taking an oral supplement named arnica to decrease swelling and minimize the chances of bruising.

How to massage under eye filler?

After receiving under-eye filler, it is important to follow proper aftercare instructions to ensure optimal results. One aspect of this aftercare is massaging the treated area. Here are some tips on how to massage under eye filler:

  • Wait a few days: It is important to wait a few days after the filler has been injected before massaging the area. This allows the filler to settle and prevents it from being moved around too much.
  • Use gentle pressure: When massaging the under-eye area, use gentle pressure. You do not want to be too rough as this can cause the filler to shift or become uneven.
  • Follow a specific technique: When massaging the under-eye area, it is recommended to follow a specific technique. Start by pressing firmly on the inner corner of the eye and move outward along the eyebrow. Then, move inward along the top of the cheekbone towards the bridge of the nose. Finally, circle the eyes three times.
  • Use warm compresses: Warm compresses can help to smooth out any bumps or unevenness in the under-eye area after filler injections. Be sure not to use hot water as this can damage the skin.
  • Consider lymphatic drainage massage: Lymphatic drainage massages are becoming more popular as a way to reduce swelling and contour the face. This massage technique can be beneficial after under-eye filler injections.

Overall, it is important to follow proper aftercare instructions and to consult with Dr. Rokhsar if you have any concerns or notice any changes in the treated area. While massaging can be beneficial, it should be done with care and following the specific techniques outlined above. If you have persistent swelling or lumpiness, you should see Dr. Rokhsar to remedy the situation.

How to fix under eye bags with filler?

Under-eye bags can be fixed with the use of fillers. Here are some common approaches:

  • Filler injection: A filler material, typically hyaluronic acid, is injected under the eye where the bags appear to create a smooth transition between the under-eye area and cheek. Restylane, Belotero, and Vollue are commonly used hyaluronic acid fillers for under-eye treatment. These fillers can improve the appearance of tear trough deformity, unwanted dark circles, hollows, lines, or wrinkles.
  • Filler dissolution: Sometimes, under-eye filler placement may result in the Tyndall effect, wrong filler choice, or other issues. In such cases, an enzyme injection may be used to dissolve the filler. Dr. Rokhsar is an expert in fixing botched under-eye tear trough filler injections.
  • Complementing surgery: While surgery is the only way to remove under-eye bags caused by fat, injectable fillers can be used to camouflage the bags. The filler is injected below the bag to build up the tissue around it and make it less noticeable.
  • Complementing lifestyle changes: Some simple lifestyle changes such as reducing fluids before bedtime, limiting salt intake in the diet, and using a cool compress can help reduce or eliminate under-eye bags.

You may wish to consult with Dr. Rokhsar to discuss the best option for under-eye bags with fillers. While fillers can create volume and definition for a dewy, fresh finish, experts caution against using fillers as a quick fix without considering potential risks and complications. It is important to see an experienced doctor, such as Dr. Rokhsar for best results. Dr. Rokhsar performed under the eye filler injections line on the Rachael Ray show in 2008 in front of a studio audience.

How long does Restylane under eye filler last?

Restylane under eye filler can last anywhere from 6 to 18 months, depending on the individual’s body response, the exact form of Restylane used, and the treatment area. Vollure may last up to two years. Some patients have reported that the filler can last up to 24 to 36 months. However, patients are recommended to return for an assessment 6-12 months after treatment to determine whether a touch-up treatment is necessary to extend the effects. Restylane is not a permanent filler, and maintenance injections will be required to maintain the results. Permanent fillers like Bellafill or silicone are not recommended in the under-eye area based on Dr. Rokhsar’s experience.

How to smooth out under eye filler?

  • Enzyme injection: An enzyme injection can be used to dissolve the filler if needed.
  • Small needle injections: The classic approach involves using small needles that come with the filler and injecting small volumes of filler below the orbicularis oculi muscle.
  • Different filler choice: Different fillers behave differently and may have varying effects under the eyes. Hyaluronic acid fillers like Restylane, Belotero, or Vollure are typically used for under-eye treatment, but it’s important to ensure that the filler used is indicated for the area.
  • Amount of filler: The amount of filler used may vary depending on the depth of hollows under the eyes. People with significant hollowing may require more filler than those without deep hollows.
  • Massage: Proper massage techniques after under-eye filler can help distribute the filler and potentially smooth out any bumps or lumps. However, it’s important to follow the correct technique offered by an experienced physician such as Dr. Rokhsar to avoid any complications.

The crepe skin issue, which refers to thin, wrinkled skin under the eyes, is not typically treated with fillers or Botox. Instead, laser resurfacing such as fractional CO2 laser resurfacing such as Fraxel Repair may be used. You may wish to discuss any concerns or issues with Dr. Rokhsar who can provide personalized recommendations.

What is the best under eye filler?

The best type of filler for under the eyes is a hyaluronic acid filler. Specifically, the following hyaluronic acid fillers are commonly used by dermatologists: Restylane, Belotero, Juvederm Ultra, Radiesse, Vollure, and Restylane Silk. Hyaluronic acid fillers are preferred due to their transparency, ease of smoothing, and low likelihood of clumping. They are also soft, pliable, and reversible, making them a safe option for under-eye use. The most popular hyaluronic acid filler for under the eyes among injectors is Restylane. Ultimately, the choice of filler will depend on the individual’s specific needs and the expertise of the dermatologist administering the treatment. Dr. Rokhsar is an expert authority in this subject and has done more non-surgical eye lifts than any other physician. During a consultation with him, he will advise you on which under-eye filler would be best for you.

How much does laser eye bag removal cost?

The cost of laser eye bag removal varies depending on several factors, such as the location of the surgery, the type of laser device used, the doctor of choice, and whether or not insurance will cover the procedure.

However, these prices may not include fees for hospital, medical tests, anesthesia, or prescription and necessary medications, which may add to the total cost of the procedure. Additionally, the cost may vary depending on the experience and expertise of the surgeon performing the procedure.

It is advisable to consult with Dr. Rokhsar to discuss the cost and details of the procedure, as well as any potential risks and benefits.
