The Wall Street Journal Report: Double Chin Solution with Kybella

In this report from The Wall Street Journal, Dr. Cameron Rokhsar discusses the non-invasive solution to the double chin: Kybella. Dr. Rokhsar offers NYC double-chin removal injections at both his Manhattan and his Long Island offices.

Among the First to Offer Kybella In New York

Dr. Rokhsar, the founder of the New York Cosmetic, Skin & Laser Surgery Center, is proud to be among the first group of physicians hand-selected by Kythera (Kybella’s maker) to offer the revolutionary Kybella ™1 procedure. It is a non-invasive approach for reducing fat below and around the chin, the submental area, and the neck.

Dr. Rokhsar is a certified physicians trainer and a speaker for Allergan Medical Institute.

Even if you are relatively young or lead an active and healthy lifestyle, submental fullness near the chin and the neck can develop. Kybella reduces the appearance of a double chin and contours the neck and submental area.

With offices in New York and Long Island, Dr. Rokhsar places small amounts of the fat-buster drug, into precise areas of the neck with fatty deposits reducing the heavy appearance through a few simple injections.

Kybella injections are considered a major breakthrough in minimally invasive fat reduction techniques and have the potential to transform the contour of the jowls and the neck by dissolving the unwanted fat in these areas. The injections have the potential to replace liposuction as a procedure for many patients with submental fullness, heavy necks, jowls, or double chin.

Kybella’s Benefits

You may notice deposits of fat around your chin, neck, and submental area particularly when you speak or make certain facial expressions. These deposits may be prominent even if the rest of your facial features are balanced and in harmony.

Many New York Kybella patients find that chin fat resists diet and exercise and becomes more of a problem with age or weight fluctuations. Most previous remedies for this concern were surgical, resulting in downtime and discomfort.

It is the first and only FDA-approved2, non-surgical treatment to reduce submental fullness. It is:

  • An effective procedure that requires no downtime.
  • Tolerable, as injections are often combined with an anesthetic for your comfort.
  • Capable of providing permanent improvement.

Kybella works by destroying the unwanted fat cells so that they cannot store or accumulate fat in the future. In other words, you should not require retreatment once you have reached your aesthetic goals.

New York Cosmetic Skin & Laser Surgery Center and Dr. Rokhsar offer Kybella to patients who are healthy enough for treatment, who have moderate-to-severe submental fullness, and who are looking for a way to achieve an improved chin profile as well as a tighter neck.

Am I a Good Candidate?

During your consultation with Dr. Rokhsar, you will discuss whether Kybella is a good fit for your desired final results. In general, patients who are good candidates:

  • Want to eliminate excess fat around the neck
  • Are troubled by the look of their “double chin”
  • Are unable to eliminate their double chin easily through diet or exercise
  • Desire the confidence that comes with a more slender, more visible jawline
  • Do not want to undergo surgery or are not a good candidate for surgical procedures
  • Are comfortable waiting a few months for optimal results
  • Have realistic expectations about what this procedure can accomplish

During any consultation with Dr. Rokhsar, patients should be prepared to discuss their general medical history, including any medications they are currently taking. This is also true of Kybella, though the injection does not present many risks to patients. You should also be ready to talk about your desired results—where you would like to eliminate chin fat and how best to accomplish that.

It should be noted that Kybella is currently only approved by the FDA to treat chin fat; it will work on other areas of the body as well. If you would like to eliminate fat in other areas of the body, Dr. Rokhsar may also recommend non-invasive procedures such as Coolsculpting or minimally invasive liposuction.

How Does Kybella Work?

Your body has natural ways of breaking down fat, and those mechanisms are generally activated when your body needs that fat for energy (for example, during rigorous exercise or when you might be fasting). Kybella is an artificial reproduction of a natural molecule in the body—that is, the molecule is chemically identical to what is already in your body, making this a very safe treatment.

To be most effective, the treatment needs to be administered by a highly trained and experienced cosmetic surgeon, such as Dr. Rokhsar. Once injected into the double chin, the molecule (deoxycholic acid) will disrupt the cell walls of the fat, essentially breaking the fat cells down (or “melting” them). The fat is absorbed back into your body, but broken down and moved away from your chin. Therefore, any submental fullness or double-chin fat will be gone.

Dr. Rokhsar is one of the few cosmetic surgeons in New York authorized to administer Kybella. This treatment helps many patients achieve a more slender, athletic look without surgery.

What are the Side Effects of Kybella?

As with any injectable treatment, there is a slight possibility of side effects3. Patients can experience slight bruising, swelling, and redness at the injection site following your session. This irritation typically subsides quickly.

Recovery and Results

There is no true “recovery” period from Kybella injections. You will be able to resume normal activities immediately. There may be some bruising or redness after the initial injections, but that should diminish within two to three days. Swelling and lumpiness can persist for a few weeks in some people.

The results will generally manifest themselves over two to three weeks, with peak results showing a few months later. Most patients will notice a substantial loss of excess fat from around the jawline and neck. In most cases, the “double chin” will diminish and reveal a more slender, sleek jawline. Our patients have reported a significant increase in confidence and self-esteem thanks to this procedure, as those patients are thankful to finally be rid of persistent, difficult-to-target fat.

When Can I Get Kybella?

Now that Dr. Rokhsar has helped spread the word about this procedure, its demand will undoubtedly rise. If you are looking for Kybella injections in the New York area, Dr. Cameron Rokhsar is undeniably among the foremost experts in this procedure, and he offers the treatment at his Manhattan and Long Island, NY cosmetic surgery clinics.

Contact Dr. Rokhsar to get started on your transformation right away. A more athletic jawline could be just a few injections away.

Kybella for Chin Sculpting

Kybella—the first and only FDA-approved, non-surgical treatment for submental fullness—is available from New York Cosmetic Skin & Laser Surgery Center and from our surgeon, Dr. Cameron Rokhsar. Dr. Cameron Rokhsar is one of the first doctors selected by Kythera, the maker of Kybella to offer this revolutionary procedure in Manhattan and long island and has been selected as a clinical trial site.

For patients in New York, it can target:

  • The double-chin effect.
  • The weight that collects in the lower face regardless of diet and exercise.
  • Heaviness around the chin that can develop as you age.

Within a few non-invasive treatments, you can expect a major improvement in the way that you look and the way that you feel about your appearance.

Innovation and Effectiveness: Why We are Excited About Kybella

As a board-certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained cosmetic and laser surgeon, Dr. Rokhsar closely follows developments in aesthetic treatment. He trains in the latest technology, prioritizes safety, and has invented several non-surgical procedures during his career.

He and our practice are proud to offer Kybella to our New York patients because:

  • It targets an important and common need. Many patients are dissatisfied with the appearance of fat around their chin. Few cosmetic options were available before Kybella, and most required surgery and downtime.
  • It is a game-changer. You may be familiar with BOTOX®, the injectable that made it possible for patients to appear years younger without surgical intervention. We expect this to create a similar non-surgical revolution in how patients treat heaviness in the chin.
  • It is an FDA-approved solution. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved it as a treatment for submental fat. Patients in the FDA process reported an improvement in the amount of fat they saw under the chin as well as improved self-image following treatment.

Getting Started with New York Kybella Treatments

If diet and exercise are not helping you achieve the results you want and if fat deposits around your chin are taking away from your appearance, we encourage you to explore Kybella.

Start by getting in touch with our practice. We will schedule an appointment for you so that you can get to know Dr. Rokhsar and our team, ask questions about treatment and learn what you need to make an informed decision.

Treatments are non-invasive4 and take place in a short amount of time (typically 20 minutes per session.) Following treatment, you should be able to return to normal activities. After as few as two sessions, you should notice a significant improvement in the amount of fat around your chin. Patients typically need no more than six sessions.

The fat you can expect to lose will be gone permanently, leaving you with a natural-looking, more sculpted, and more youthful appearance. If you are ready to reveal your best self, get in touch now.

How Your Non-Invasive Treatment Can Save You Money

One of the greatest benefits of modern procedures like Kybella lies in its simplicity and efficiency. One reason for the high costs of medical procedures has traditionally been the time and effort that goes into training specialists.

Think about it. You would be opting for major, life-changing surgery, and you would (rightfully) expect the best experience possible. That includes the time spent on the procedure itself, the expertise and training involved with going under the knife, the costs of anesthesia, etc. Surgeries like facelifts and liposuction can run you $4000+. And, of course, that does not even take into consideration lost wages from recovery time and potentially unforeseen consequences that can come with any surgery.

How Much Does Kybella Cost?

By comparison, Kybella treatments, on average run between $800-$1500 per treatment, requiring no more than two or three treatments in most cases. Much of this depends on your specific needs, and what exactly you want to have done. Side effects are minimal in most cases, and downtime is generally non-existent. While it does not carry the risks of surgery, it is still a serious medical procedure that requires a highly trained cosmetic surgeon to administer.

Dr. Rokhsar, having taken part in the original clinical trials, is currently one of the foremost experts in this treatment, as well as one of the few doctors in the greater New York area certified to administer Kybella. In addition to helping pioneer the injection technique, he has been actively involved in the clinical development of both cosmetic device technologies and early FDA trials for laser liposuction systems.

Brilliant Distinctions®

In addition, Kybella offers the exclusive Brilliant Distinctions® rewards program that lets you save on Allergan products. When treated, you will receive loyalty points that can be redeemed for future treatments. Enrollment5 is quick and simple.

Can Kybella help with PAH side effects from fat reduction treatments & post-liposuction irregularities?

Can Kybella help with PAH side effects from fat reduction treatments & post-liposuction irregularities?

Dr. Rokhsar has treated a number of patients suffering from paradoxical adipose hyperplasia where their previous fat reduction treatment had the opposite effect and caused an increase in fatty tissue growth. Kybella injections can help reduce fatty tissue in the PAH-affected areas. It is also very effective in treating irregularities post-liposuction. Injecting Kybella in the affected area, or fatty pocket, will dissolve fat and deliver the desired results for the patient.

What is Kybella used for?

Kybella is a non-surgical injection technique used to reduce excess fat beneath the chin, also known as submental fat or double chin. It uses a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a substance naturally produced by the body to aid in the breakdown of dietary fat.

Overall, Kybella is used to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin. It is the only FDA-approved cosmetic injectable to permanently treat submental fat. Dr. Rokhsar has been hand selected to be one of the first doctors in the United States to offer the Kybella procedure. He has been using Kybella with great success for more than ten years. Our center was also a clinical study site for this procedure. We are very excited about the benefits our patients can now experience with this great and effective procedure. Dr. Rokhsar has more experience in Kybella injections than any other physician. He is also an expert in the off-label use of Kybella to create Venus dimples, reduce bra fat, reduce lipomas (fatty tumors). Dr. Rokhsar has successfully used Kybella in under chin, neck, jowls, abdomen, thighs, arms, and love handles. Dr. Rokhsar also uses kybella routinely in the treatment of lipomas for patients who want to avoid surgery or excision. Dr. is also a fan of using kybella in the jowls to permanently get rid of jowls.

If you have excess fat beneath your chin or anywhere on your body, Kybella may be a treatment option for you. However, it is important to consult with Dr. Rokhsar to determine if Kybella is the right choice for you and discuss all other options.

How long does Kybella swelling last?

Swelling is a common side effect of Kybella treatment, and its duration may vary from patient to patient. Swelling from Kybella injections can last from a few days up to four weeks. The peak of the swelling is typically around 24 to 48 hours after the procedure. Patients may also notice lumpiness and soreness in the area which resolves within 4-8 weeks after the procedure. Patients may also experience numbness in the treated areas which usually goes away within a few weeks to a few months.

It is essential to note that swelling after Kybella treatment is normal and expected, and it usually goes away on its own. However, if the swelling persists for an extended period, it could be a sign of infection, and patients are advised to contact their medical provider. Most patients require multiple treatment sessions to achieve their desired results, and the recommended time between treatments is 2 months.

How long does it take for Kybella to work?

It takes one to two weeks to a maximum of a month for recovery for things to return to normal. The swelling generally subsides within a few weeks. The treatment takes about 15-20 minutes per session. Each session may consist of several injection sites where Kybella is injected. Recovery time can range from 48 hours to two weeks, with visible swelling that can last up to two weeks. Dr. Rokhsar recommends to wait a full 8 weeks between each treatment as the treatment areas continue to improve. It takes two full months to see the final result from Kybella injections. Even small pockets of fat can require one or two vials of Kybella. Larger areas with more fat can require 3-6 vials. The effectiveness of Kybella may vary depending on the individual and the amount of Kybella injected. If not enough Kybella is used, the result may be suboptimal. Dr Rokhsar recommends waiting 2 months to evaluate your result from the Kybella injections.

How many vials of Kybella do I need?

The number of vials of Kybella needed varies depending on the individual case, amount of submental fat, and aesthetic goals. Generally, one vial of Kybella provides between 8-20 mg per treatment session, and most people will require multiple treatments to achieve desirable results. A typical neck area requires 2-3 vials of Kybella. Lipomas require one half of a vial to 2 vials depending on the size of the lipoma.

The number of injections needed varies for each patient. Dr. Rokhsar can help design a personalized treatment plan based on the amount of submental fat under the chin, schedule, and desired results. In general, the jowl area requires one to three treatments of one vial, usually half a vial peer jowl. The double chin area requires two to three vials, requiring 2 or 3 separate treatments. Mild fat may require only one vial. The bra bulge area (bra fat)requires two to three treatments of two to three vials. The belly pooch area requires two to three treatments of two to four vials. Most patients will need two to three vials of Kybella per treatment depending on the size of area being treated. Besides double chin, bra fat, knee fat, jowls, and lipomas, Dr. Rokhsar also commonly treats male breasts with Kybella to reduce the size if the patient does not wish to undergo liposuction for gynecomastia.
