Bellafill Injections in New York

Bellafill Wrinkles Filler

Many of our patients love the results of injected dermal fillers but dislike the temporary nature of the majority of those fillers. In other words, they love looking younger but dislike the fact that the results wane over time. By offering a long term dermal filler Bellafill (formerly Artefill) at our Garden City and Manhattan offices, we are able to provide patients with an effective way to achieve those results.

When you are injected with any kind of temporary dermal filler1, your body gets right to work on absorbing it; that’s the way they’re designed to work. Bellafill2 (formerly known as Artefill), on the other hand, is designed to resist absorption. Bellafill is able to do this because of the unique microspheres out of which the injectable is chemically composed. This means that Bellafill has a distinctly long life span, meaning that you will probably enjoy the benefits for many years to come. In some studies, the results of Bellafill have lasted for nearly fifteen years.

If you are interested in eliminating wrinkles and lines and restoring volume, but you don’t want surgery, Bellafill treatment in our New York and Long Island offices may be right for you. How does Bellafill work?

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body, naturally forming a scaffold of strength and structure to hold the bones, muscles, skin, and tendons together. Most of our skin is made up of collagen, and as people age the elastin and collagen fibers — which provide elasticity — become thicker and more clumped, resulting in inelastic, droopy, and brittle skin. After your twentieth birthday, your body will produce one less percent of the collagen in the skin with each passing year causing volume loss in the face, increasing the chances for wrinkles and folds to appear. The fat pads in our cheeks may slide down toward the mouth, causing the skin to wrinkle or fold, which is what creates the smile lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth.

Collagen is the answer to replenishing the face back to a youthful and smooth appearance. Bellafill is a collagen-based filler with PMMA microspheres (polymethylmethacrylate) designed to provide immediate volume below facial wrinkles and acne scars. Studies have shown results can last in patients five years post-injection. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration3 (FDA) approved the use of Bellafill for nasolabial folds (smile lines), pitted acne scars, and it can also be used as an off-label treatment for facial wrinkles. Bellafill replaces lost volume in the skin just below the wrinkles, creating a natural-looking correction.

Dr. Rokhsar may recommend NYC Bellafill injections to minimize the visibility of acne scars. Patients with the most common types of acne scars, including boxcar scars, ice pick scars, rolling scar, hypertrophic and keloid scars, can be treated by injecting the collagen just below the scar and lifting it to the level of the surrounding skin for a smoother and even appearance.

The filler is comprised of 80 percent purified collagen and 20 percent PMMA microspheres. It recreates a firm matrix structure that supports your body’s own collagen production. Over time, the body naturally breaks down and absorbs the collagen.

Bellafill Injections FAQ

How is Bellafill different from temporary dermal fillers?

All temporary fillers are eventually absorbed by the body. That’s why they require frequent repeat injections. Bellafill is different. The unique microspheres in Bellafill are not absorbed by the body. These microspheres provide the physical support your skin needs for long-lasting wrinkle correction. Now, with Bellafill, you can get the lasting wrinkle correction you want in just one or two treatments.

What are PPMA Microspheres?

The microspheres in Bellafill are made up of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) which has been widely used as a medical material since 1949. These tiny spheres both provide structure and help to fill in the wrinkles and any hollowness in the face.

When Does Bellafill Start Working?

Bellafill starts working almost immediately. It begins by filling in wrinkles and smoothing out the texture of the skin. Initial results will be visible within half an hour from the point you leave our New York or Long Island office.

What is Bellafill?

Bellafill is an FDA-approved dermal filler that is used for the correction of nasolabial folds, smile lines, and acne scarring. Unlike other dermal fillers, Bellafill is non-resorbable, meaning that it is not absorbed by the body and does not require reinjection. Bellafill is composed of collagen, which is a naturally occurring substance in the skin, and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) beads, a resin that has been used in medical implants for decades. It is a long-lasting filler that can provide results for up to 5 years. An allergy test is required prior to administration. Bellafill is considered a premium dermal filler and may be more expensive initially than hyaluronic acid fillers. Bellafill is approved by the FDA for use in both men and women.

How long does Bellafill last?

Bellafill can last up to five years. A clinical study reported that 87% of patients who had the treatment for smile lines were still satisfied with their results after five years. The longevity of Bellafill’s effects is usually considered the most appealing benefit for patients considering this treatment. Temporary side effects, such as mild swelling, redness, and bruising, may occur at the treatment site, but they usually last only a few days. Overall, Bellafill is a long-lasting and effective option for those seeking to rejuvenate their facial appearance with dermal fillers.

How much does Bellafill cost?

The cost of Bellafill can vary depending on various factors such as the amount of filler injected and practice location. During a consultation with Dr. Rokhsar, he can give an accurate estimate of the cost of Bellafill. It is considered a long-term solution, and its effects are believed to be permanent, making it a cost-effective option in the long run. However, regular monitoring is still recommended, and follow-up treatments may be needed to maintain the results. Ultimately, the best way to determine the cost of Bellafill for an individual is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Rokhsar.

How many syringes of Bellafill for acne scars?

The number of syringes of Bellafill needed for treating acne scars varies depending on the severity and extent of scarring. It is generally recommended that one syringe of Bellafill covers about 9 acne scars. Most people require between 2-4 syringes of Bellafill for optimal results. However, a reasonable result may only be achieved with one to two syringes, resulting in about a 50% to 60% correction. Additional treatments should be done 8 weeks apart, and injecting more than one syringe at a time should be avoided. There are potential side effects associated with Bellafill injections, including lumps, bumps, and acne. It is recommended to consult with Dr. Rokhsar to determine the appropriate number of syringes needed for individual acne scarring concerns. Injections with Bellafill can not be reversed.

How many syringes of Bellafill for smile lines?

The number of syringes of Bellafill needed to treat smile lines can vary depending on the patient and the extent of the lines. Good estimate is a kit of 5 syringes for every decade over the age of 40 if building mid facial volume, but it is recommended to be conservative due to Bellafill’s duration of 5 years. During a consultation with Dr. Rokhsar, he will evaluate your concerns and be able to determine the appropriate number of syringes needed to achieve desired results.

Where can Bellafill be injected?

Bellafill is a dermal filler that is used for the correction of nasolabial folds and moderate to severe, atrophic, distensible facial acne scars on the cheek in patients over the age of 21 years. It can also be injected into other areas of the face such as the cheeks, nose, lips, chin, jawline, and the area beneath the eyes. However, it is contraindicated for use in lip augmentation and injection into the vermilion or the wet mucosa of the lip. Before the injection, the treatment areas are mapped out, and the filler is injected into the skin with an ultrafine needle. Patients can see immediate results, and most patients achieve optimal results within one or two treatments. Allergy testing is required in the form of placing a small amount of Bellafill in the arm. The patient needs to wait 6 weeks to assess the results of the allergy test. Dr. Rokhsar recommends two separate sessions of allergy testing for maximum safety.
