How Does Meditation Affects Your Skin?

Pimples, acne and blemishes all arise from blocked pores and stresses hormones, especially during puberty, a time when the body is constantly adjusting and readjusting itself until it finds the right balance. Meditating is a way to find that needed balance. It has often been thought of as sitting Indian style with palms up and humming, when in fact, meditation is not limited to any of those things. The main principle behind successful meditation is being able to clear your mind in any position, anywhere. To be completely within the present moment, and to observe yourself as an outsider looking in is the key, and in doing it your body becomes completely relaxed.

Skin benefits lie in the relaxation part of the meditative rewards. Stress could be inflaming pimples and creating an oiler complexion. Stress triggers the adrenal glands which start up the over production of cortisol, also known as the stress hormone. Once the hormone is released, it stimulates the sebaceous glands to produce more oil. Stress creates a chain reaction that is recipe for bad skin. Clinical studies have proven stress is the common denominator to these skin problems.

Treatments based on stress relief are solutions people go to when medications and herbal remedies fail. Patients with hives, pimples and eczema typically worsen as personal lives or work situations become more stressed or complicated. Calming the stress hormones down can be the trick for many patients, especially those who are affected by an abnormal oil production.  Dr. Rokhsar can suggest other treatments such as light and laser therapy, especially for those suffering from scars left over from acne flare-ups.
